Essential Black Joy Through Dance. To be Black oftentimes means to face the struggle of validating the full spectrum of our humanity. Society is constantly telling us to be invisible--be quiet. Therefore the claiming of our human birthright to boisterous joy is, in and of itself, an act of resistance and essential to well being. This workshop will provide participants with an introduction to the important concepts of the multidimensional function of dance as an expression of Black joy, an overview of contemporary Afro-diasporic cultural dance systems, and strategies for allyship. Finally, participants are lead through a high energy, all-levels movement experiential featuring various popular Afro-diasporic dance styles, all to a poppin', ever-evolving playlist.

Urban Dances of the African Diaspora. There is a quote that says, "there are two gifts you should give to children, one is roots and the other is wings." This interactive workshop provides both. Students are taken on an Afro-diasporic dance journey through continental African dance, Afro-Caribbean, and finally African-American dance styles. Each section features two expressions of each genre starting with traditional and folkloric and ending with their contemporary counterparts. The sections are prefaced with short, engaging, informational sharing and demonstrations followed by accessible, follow-along dance routines for all ages to enjoy.

Personal Power of Dance. This speech examines the challenges and triumphs of my dance journey, starting with my early years as a hopeful young pre-professional ballet dancer in New York City. It follows a dark period of completely ceasing to dance for an entire decade after succumbing to my Dance Dragons, the critical voices in one's head that creates mental traps and diminished self-worth. Finally, my story comes full-circle as I share how I reignited my passion for dance and carved my own unique path to becoming a professional dancer and Dance Dragon Slayer. The valuable lessons I learned are shared in the forms of the Personal Powers of Story, Values, and Purpose. Listeners are provided with tangible tools, taken from my practice as a Dance Inspiration Coach, that will allow them to implement these powers in their own journeys toward success and purpose, leaving them feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to SLAY.
